Privacy Policy — Masajid Qatar

Effective date: July 29, 2026

Masajid Qatar ("the App") helps you find the mosque nearest to your current location in Qatar. We built the App to collect as little information as possible. This policy explains what the App uses, and what it does not.

Summary

Information the App Uses

Location

When you grant permission, the App reads your device's approximate position ("while using the app" only) for one purpose: to search for mosques near you and to calculate how far away they are.

Prayer Times

When you are in Qatar, the App fetches the day's official prayer times from prayers.qa (Qatar Calendar House times), with Qatar's Ministry of Interior public service (portal.moi.gov.qa) as a fallback. These requests contain no personal data and no location — they are the same public pages anyone can open in a browser. Outside Qatar, or when the service is unreachable, prayer times (including Friday's Jumu'ah) are calculated astronomically on your device from your coordinates. Iqama times are approximate offsets in both cases. The Qibla direction is computed entirely on your device.

Islamic Events

The Events tab shows Islamic occasions computed on your device from the Hijri calendar, alongside recent activities published by Qatar's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf). To show those activities, the App fetches the ministry's public news feed (meiaservicesext.islam.gov.qa). That request contains no personal data and no location — only your app language (English/Arabic), so the feed returns items in the language you read. The feed is cached on your device and refreshed at most every 36 hours. Tapping through to read more opens the ministry's own website (islam.gov.qa) in your browser, under the ministry's own terms.

Notifications

Adhan, iqama, and morning/evening adhkar reminders are optional and off by default. When you turn them on, they are scheduled locally on your device (adhkar reminders fire at the daily times you pick). No push-notification server is involved and nothing leaves your device. You can turn them off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

Adhkar and Feedback

The morning and evening adhkar are bundled text within the App — reading them sends nothing anywhere. If you use Suggestions & Feedback, the App simply opens your own email app with a message addressed to us; you choose what to write and whether to send it.

Zakat Calculator

Any figures you enter in the Zakat calculator are stored only on your device so you can revisit them, and are never transmitted to us or anyone else. To value the nisab threshold, the App fetches public gold and silver spot prices from gold-api.com; that request contains no personal data and none of your figures — it asks only for the current metal price.

Settings

Your language preference (English/Arabic) and other in-app settings are stored only on your device and are not personal data.

Nothing Else

The App does not collect, request, or have access to:

Third-Party Services

The App uses three services to find mosques near you:

When you tap "Get Directions," you can choose to navigate with Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze. The App opens the service you chose with the mosque's location (never your own position — the navigation app determines your position itself, under its own privacy policy: Apple, Google, Waze). If the chosen app is not installed, the link opens in your browser instead.

No other third-party services, SDKs, advertising networks, or analytics tools are used.

Children's Privacy

The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Data Retention and Deletion

Because the App does not collect or store personal data, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Removing the App from your device removes everything associated with it.

Changes to This Policy

If the App's behavior changes in a way that affects your privacy, this policy will be updated and the effective date above will be revised before the change takes effect.
